Since the handing down of the Federal Government budget, we have been inundated with questions about the Government funding opportunities available for businesses looking to recruit new employees.

With all the messaging out there, navigating both State and Federal Government Incentives can be challenging! See our quick wrap up of both the Federal and Queensland State funding that businesses may be eligible for.  

Federal Government Funding

Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements Wage Subsidy

The Incentive: 50% Wage Subsidy for eligible Businesses that employ a new Australian Apprentice or Trainee 

Fast Facts:

  • Funding paid in instalments of up to $7 000 per quarter
  • Eligible apprentices and trainees must be hired between 5 October 2020 and 30 September 2021
  • The subsidy is capped at 100,000 places.
  • The subsidy is available to employers of any size, industry or geographic location

Jobmaker Hiring Credit

The Incentive: JobMaker Hiring Credit of up to $200 a week will be available to eligible employers for each new job they create over the next 12 months for which they hire an eligible young person, aged 16 to 35 years old.

Fast Facts:

  • Eligible for any type of role created within the business
  • Must be an additional job created in the business
  • Effective from 7 October 2020 until 6 October 2021
  • Eligible employers will be able to claim $200 a week for each additional eligible employee they hire aged 16 to 29 years; and $100 a week for each additional eligible employee aged 30 to 35 years old.
  • To be eligible, the employee must have received the JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance (Other), or Parenting Payment for at least one of the previous three months at the time of hiring.
  • Must be an additional job created in the business
  • Can not be used in conjunction with Boosting Apprenticeship Commencement Funding

Queensland State Government Funding

Back to Work -Youth Boost Payment


The Incentive: $20,000 available for eligible employers who hire an eligible young unemployed jobseeker

Fast Facts:

  • Eligible jobseeker must be aged between 15-24 years.
  • Eligible jobseeker must be out of work for 4 weeks prior to commencement.
  • Funding paid in instalments over a 12-month period
  • Location: available in Regional areas and some parts of SEQ

Back to Work – Apprentice and Trainee Boost Payment

The Incentive: $20,000 available for employers who hire an eligible unemployed jobseeker

Fast Facts:

  • Available for eligible unemployed jobseekers of all ages
  • Eligible jobseeker must be out of work for 4 weeks prior to commencement
  • Funding paid in instalments over a 12 month period
  • Location: available in Regional areas and some parts of SEQ
  • Can not be used in conjunction with Youth Boost Payment
